Defying the Timeline: Oakley's Story

A ruptured tendon typically means 9 to 12 months on the sidelines. Oakley was back in competition in less than three.

Meet Oakley.

Oakley is a 10-year-old APHA gelding who competes in dressage — a discipline that demands precision, strength, and soundness in every step. While out in pasture, he suffered a serious injury: two ruptured extensor tendons in his hind leg. It was the kind of setback that makes any competitive owner brace for a very long road ahead.

Oakley's care team got to work immediately with a comprehensive recovery plan — ice, rest, shockwave therapy, and bute. To accelerate healing at the tissue level, EquiSol Red Light Therapy was added to his protocol twice daily, targeting the injured tendons to reduce inflammation and promote repair.

Typical recovery time for a ruptured tendon in horses: 9 to 12 months.

Oakley's recovery time: less than 2 months to be cleared for under saddle work — and less than 3 months to return to competition.

Oakley's case is a powerful example of what's possible when Red Light Therapy is integrated into a structured recovery plan. His timeline wasn't just faster than average. It was a fraction of what's expected. He's back doing dressage, and his team couldn't be more grateful for how far he's come.
