Back on Her Feet: Kona's Story

A slip during a dinnertime dash led to emergency spinal surgery, and a recovery that's exceeded every expectation.

Meet Kona.

Meet Kona, a sweet, energetic 9-year-old Doberman who loves mealtime so much she runs celebratory laps around the kitchen before she'll even sit for her bowl. On January 11, 2026, one of those joyful dinnertime laps took a turn when Kona slipped, lost her balance, and ran into the wall.

At first, Kona seemed fine. But two days later, she began limping on her right front leg. Her vet took x-rays, found no breaks, and suspected a muscle strain with some nerve irritation, prescribing anti-inflammatories and rest with every expectation she'd bounce back.

Instead, Kona got worse. Her limp progressed until she was knuckling her paw and couldn't walk without a harness, and she began losing muscle from nerve compression. Her family was referred to a specialist, and an MRI revealed the real cause, a herniated disc in her C4 cervical vertebrae requiring immediate surgery.

The surgery was successful, and Kona was home just two days later. As soon as her family knew surgery was needed, they reached out to Jackie at AnimaSol, who quickly sent a DogSol red light coat to support her recovery. Kona has worn it daily ever since coming home, and the difference has been incredible, her mobility has improved significantly, and her surgical incision has healed beautifully.
